After the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in 1945, roughly 900 men went into the water. Only 316 survived. The Navy court-martialed the captain. A 12-year-old kid’s school project got him exonerated 55 years later.

In 1936 he became notorious for kidnapping Chiang-Kai-Shek & forcing him to ally with the Chinese communists against the Japanese. He was later imprisoned by Chiang for over 50 years & died in 2001 at 100 (1349×1048)

On August 7th 1930, Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith were lynched in the town center of Marion, Indiana. Photographer Lawrence Beitler captured the scene, creating what became the most iconic photograph of lynching in America. The case was never solved.
